Privacy policy
Effective 5 October 2026
Lux Fidei is a place to pray. We collect only what it needs to work, we never sell it, and we never show advertising. Children don’t have accounts: a parent adds a child’s first name and grade, and a teacher never sees which children prayed.
Who we are
Lux Fidei (luxfidei.org) is run by Verity Kahn, doing business as Lux Fidei, based in Texas, USA (“we”, “us”). Questions about privacy: hello@luxfidei.org.
What we collect
Your account
- Your first and last name and your email address.
- Your password, if you sign in with one. It is held by our sign-in provider (Google Firebase Authentication); we never see it. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google.
- Your settings, such as your theme, and any access code you redeem.
Your prayer
- When you pray in the Oratory: the date, the kind of prayer and how long it lasted.
- Your progress: your Via Sacra, the pilgrimages you walk and their medals, the saints you’ve met and your gold feast stars.
- We do not record what you pray about. Lux Fidei has no place to write prayer intentions.
Classrooms
- For a teacher’s classroom: the class name, grade, school name, prayer schedule and the class’s progress.
- A classroom holds no students’ names or accounts. Students take part through the teacher’s screen.
Families and children
- A family’s name and the parents who belong to it (up to two).
- For each child a parent adds: their first name, their grade, the class they’re linked to (if any) and their prayer progress.
- Children never have logins, email addresses or photos in Lux Fidei.
Technical information
- To protect the service from abuse, Google reCAPTCHA (through Firebase App Check) checks that requests come from the real Lux Fidei site. It looks at information about your browser and device. Google’s privacy policy applies to it.
- Our hosting providers keep short-lived technical logs, such as IP addresses and browser types, to run and secure the service.
- Your device remembers small preferences, such as whether music is muted or which page you were on last. These stay on your device.
- We use no advertising, no analytics trackers and no tracking cookies.
How we use it
- To run Lux Fidei: to sign you in, keep your progress and show it back to you.
- To manage access: free trials, codes and (in future) payments.
- To keep the service safe and fix problems.
- To email you about your account, such as confirming your email or resetting your password. We don’t send marketing emails.
We never sell or rent personal information, and we never use it for advertising.
Who can see what
- You see your own prayer and progress.
- Parents in the same family see the family and their children’s progress.
- Teachers see their class’s progress. When children linked to the class pray at home, the teacher sees only totals: how many families are connected, a prayer meter and the candles it has lit. Teachers never see children’s names, which children prayed, or how often.
- Nobody else. Lux Fidei has no public profiles or community feed today. If we ever add one, it will be optional and explained before it starts.
Children’s privacy
Lux Fidei accounts are for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. A child’s first name and grade are added only by their parent, who can change or remove them at any time on the My family page. Removing a child deletes their profile and progress.
A parent may link a child to their class with the class’s code. Their teacher then sees their home prayer only as part of the class totals described above. A parent can unlink a child at any time.
Schools and teachers use Lux Fidei to pray as a class. We use classroom information only to provide the service to the school, never for any other purpose. If you are a parent or school with a question about a child’s information, write to hello@luxfidei.org.
Service providers
We use trusted companies to run Lux Fidei. They process information only on our behalf:
- Google Firebase (Google Cloud): sign-in, database, file storage and server functions, in the United States.
- Google reCAPTCHA: protection against abuse (see above).
- Vercel: hosting of the luxfidei.org website.
- Google Fonts: the typefaces on the site, which your browser downloads from Google.
Links to the full daily readings open the US Conference of Catholic Bishops’ website, which has its own privacy policy.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open, so your Via Sacra and saints are there when you return, even after your access ends. When you delete your account in Settings, your information is deleted straight away; if you ask us by email, we do it within 30 days. The only exceptions are copies in routine backups, which expire on their own, and records we must keep by law.
Your choices and rights
- See and correct: your name and settings are in Settings; your progress is on your pages.
- Delete: choose Settings → Delete my account, and your account and its information are deleted straight away. (Or write to hello@luxfidei.org from your account’s email address and we’ll do it for you.) Parents can remove a child’s information themselves on My family.
- Ask: you may ask what information we hold about you, and receive a copy.
Residents of Texas and other states with privacy laws may have further rights under those laws, such as the rights to access, correct and delete their information and to appeal a decision. Write to hello@luxfidei.org, and we’ll respond within 45 days.
Security
Information travels encrypted (HTTPS). Database rules mean each person can reach only their own information, their family’s or their class’s, and sensitive changes such as access and class links happen only on our servers. No system is perfectly secure, and we’ll tell you promptly if a breach affects your information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. For important changes, we’ll tell you in Lux Fidei or by email before they take effect.
